Veera Lakshmi strengthens our reserve and will
power. All things are possible when we have the strength to follow our
passion and work with determination.
Day Two: Gaja Lakshmi cultivates a sense of completion within us
and gives us the blessing that everything we need is within us; and
knowing this will uplift us and imbue us with a sense that all of us
have the divine spark within us and that we are children of God.
Day Three: Santhan Lakshmi helps those women who are unable to
conceive and solve any marital problems.
Day Four: Vijaya Lakshmi invokes a sense of accomplishment, a
feeling that we will be victorious in life. ‘Being Victorious’ is a
state of what we are, what we are capable of doing, how we should
approach the world.
Day Five: Dhanya Lakshmi relates to that aspect of divine
feminine which nourishes all life: whether it is Mother Earth, who has
endowed us with fertile land, or our mothers who lovingly prepares our
meals and manages our lives.
Day Six: Adi Lakshmi invokes within us deep-seated knowledge,
which will help us find wisdom and ultimately take us on a path to
salvation.

fortune in the world. She blesses us with material goods including

Background
One of the
ways to achieve sustainable development and improve the standard of
local populations living in areas rich in biodiversity is to take
advantage of the new investment and trade opportunities that are
emerging for biodiversity-friendly products and services. Markets
for these products are on the rise because of the emerging
biotechnology industry, the search by industry for recyclable
products, and shifts in consumer behavior in developed and
developing countries.
The world market of products and services derived from renewable
resources is estimated to be more than US$ 900 billion per year,
with USA, the European Union and Japan being the biggest countries.
The world production of natural ingredients for cosmetics has been
estimated at US$ 1 billion, out of which 55% is derived from
developing countries. The ecotourism is also becoming an important
niche within the tourism industry, generating more than US$ 260
billion yearly. Additionally, the UNCTAD/WTO International Trade
Centre estimated the consumption of organic food and beverage at US$
20 billion for 2000, and increasing up to US$ 60 billion for 2005 in
Japan, USA and the European Union. National markets within
developing countries for these products are also growing.
Biodiversity products have a high potential to offer realistic
gains. They often have high value compared to their weight, what
lends itself well for commercialization, value-addition and
transportation to markets. Similarly, the nature of these products
offers new possibilities for increased involvement of local and
indigenous communities. For example, said communities could
cultivate or domesticate some wild-collected plants, hence
alleviating the processing. This would in turn leave a greater share
of the added value a greater share of the added value to local
producers, who would attach more value more value to the resource
and be encouraged to commit more voluntarily to its protection,
sustainable management and perpetual use.
If developing countries are able to seize these opportunities,
biodiversity could be turned into an engine for growth and
sustainable development. Currently, these countries are seeking to
capture this potential through:
Developing
legal and policy frameworks for the sustainable use of
biodiversity.
Acquiring
technical and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Obtaining
market information and market access.
Developing
biodiversity conservation schemes.
